Battery storage, solar & business cases
BACKGROUND
Bertrand Grivelet is an energy engineer (INSA Toulouse) with a specialised master's in innovation management (emlyon business school). He started in solar PV engineering at a major electrical engineering group, on projects from a few kilowatts to 3 MWp, including storage solutions, from design through to commissioning.
After a period in operational excellence consulting, he spent two years running a branch in Guadeloupe: developing solar projects across the whole value chain in the French Caribbean, with a team of seven to ten (engineering, sales, construction). He knows France's non-interconnected overseas grids, with their own standards and rules for connection and energy valuation.
His field experience covers solar plants, solar-plus-battery and solar-plus-generator systems, collective self-consumption and EV charging.
An independent consultant since 2021, he has supported more than twenty companies and public bodies in the pre-study, study, sizing and de-risking of solar and battery storage projects. He designed a techno-economic pre-study tool for solar and storage, used on hundreds of scenarios.
WHAT HE BRINGS TO A PROJECT
Sizing: power and storage capacity (MW and MWh), based on the site's generation or consumption profile and grid connection constraints.
Business case: capital and operating costs, revenues across markets, returns and payback, scenario comparison to support a decision.
Hybridisation: combining solar, storage and consumption on one site, increasingly relevant for projects that pair energy generation with a data center.
Due diligence: review of the design, operating data and contracts of a solar or storage asset, with a matrix of priority risks and mitigation actions: asset availability, technical remediation, contractor guarantees.
WHO IT IS FOR
Solar and storage developers, data center developers considering on-site generation or storage, investors who want an independent view of a business plan.
HOW HE WORKS
Bertrand works within the GridReadiness network, which remains your single point of contact, on one-off studies or for the duration of a project, subject to availability. Each assignment is set out in a written proposal.
