BACKGROUND

Jean-Yves Egidio is an HSE (health, safety and environment) manager. For nearly twenty years he has organised safety on construction sites where dozens of contractors work at the same time, with high-risk operations: heavy lifts, work at height, electrical work, confined spaces.

On data centers, he was deputy HSE manager on several construction projects in Marseille, from civil works through electrical and HVAC packages to commissioning. He led teams of four to seven safety officers, followed subcontractors and reported to the client.

He has also led safety on onshore wind farm construction, coordinated the load-out of 80 offshore wind turbines onto an installation vessel, and followed the safety of wind, solar and tidal assets in four European countries. Before that: refineries, petrochemicals, metals and mining, in France, the Middle East and New Caledonia, including lead HSSE on a yard assembling 1,700-tonne modules.

A former firefighter and industrial risk trainer (work at height, ATEX, breathing apparatus, scaffolding, lifting equipment), he works with the MASE, ISO 45001 and ISO 9001 frameworks and the French ICPE regime for classified installations.

WHAT HE BRINGS TO A DATA CENTER PROJECT

A data center build packs many trades into a few months, with a commissioning phase where systems are energised while other work continues. That is where accidents and site stoppages cost the most.

Site opening: contractor induction, prevention plans, risk analyses, method statements, permits to work.

Co-activity and high-risk operations: lifting generators, transformers and chillers, work at height, lockout during testing, confined spaces.

Monitoring and control: audits and inspections, scaffolding acceptance, incident analysis and root causes, reporting to the client.

An outside view: HSE audit of a site under construction for an investor, a lender or an owner who wants to know where things stand.

WHO IT IS FOR

Owners and developers starting construction, general contractors strengthening their HSE team, investors and lenders who want an independent view of site safety.

HOW HE WORKS

Jean-Yves works within the GridReadiness network, which remains your single point of contact, on one-off audits or for the duration of a build, subject to availability. Each assignment is set out in a written proposal.
