The problem. A data center business plan assumes an energisation date. If the grid connection, a transformer or a permit slips by a year, capital stays committed and revenue waits. This tool gives an order of magnitude of what each month of delay costs, so you know what a reliable date is worth.
Illustrative orders of magnitude, excluding tax, contractual penalties and financing effects. They do not replace an analysis of the file.
HOW THE CALCULATION WORKS
Carrying cost is the cost of capital tied up during the delay. Present value lost is the difference between the value of operating cash flows if they start on the planned date and their value if they start later. Together they give an order of magnitude of the economic cost of a slip. For a real project, add customer contract clauses, the cost of equipment delivered too early and the effect on debt.
WHAT MAKES A DATE SLIP
Most often the grid connection, then long-lead equipment, permits and local context. See Time to Connect: what really sets the date and grid connection offer review.
HOW IT WORKS
WHAT WE COMMIT TO
Review of connection documents and the announced energisation date for a European data center developer, ahead of its investment decision. Audit of high-voltage equipment sourcing for a petrochemical group.
We do not design, build or sell equipment. No commission, no brokerage. Never on both sides of the same project.
Confidentiality agreement before any document. Professional liability insurance. Best-efforts obligation: only RTE and Enedis commit to capacity and a date.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is the result a forecast?
No. It is an order of magnitude to compare scenarios. Contract clauses, tax and the financing structure of a real project can change it significantly.
