Marseille is one of Europe's main submarine cable landing points, which makes it a connectivity-driven data center hub. Grid connection remains a separate question, to be handled site by site.

Regional constraints: more water stress than in the north, a climate less suited to outside-air cooling
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR A PROJECT
Connectivity does not solve power. The cables explain Marseille's appeal for latency-sensitive uses, not the capacity of the power grid. Outside the Fos area, the region lacks the dense substation network inherited from heavy industry in the north.
Water and cooling weigh on the file. The cooling choice affects water use, the capacity to request and local acceptance. See Marseille and submarine cables.
WHAT WE DO FOR A PROJECT IN MARSEILLE AND PACA
The problem. A well-located plot says nothing about the power actually available or the timeline. Capacity published by substation (Capareseau, data.gouv.fr) is a starting point, not an answer: it ignores the queue, the works required and other projects on the same substation.
Our answer. We read public data substation by substation, prepare or check the exploratory study and the PTF request, review a site's connection documents before purchase or financing, and follow the file through to the connection agreement. See grid connection audit, protecting a queue position and verifying a site's power claim.
Who is involved. A high-voltage engineer from our network who has led transmission grid connections, with a lawyer when planning or contracts are at stake. Our commitment is a best-efforts obligation.

Connection capacity and timelines are assessed substation by substation and file by file. This page is general information as of October 2026; only RTE and Enedis commit to a capacity and a timeline.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is Marseille suited to a large AI data center?
It mainly suits projects that need international connectivity. For a very large site, available power, water and cooling should be checked first.
Does the Fos zone speed up connections?
RTE listed it among connection-ready zones. Detailed access rules were not published as of October 2026; each project still has to be processed with RTE.
